(E)JES V4R5.0 Exploits New zIIP Specialty Engines
This release includes the following highlights:
Exploitation of zIIP Specialty Engines This release is designed to make a significant portion of execution resources eligible for redirection to z9 Integrated Information Processor (zIIP) specialty engines.
Application Programming Interface A powerful new Application Programming Interface (API) allows programs written in languages such as Assembler, COBOL, PL/I or C to access (E)JES facilities. The interface also includes a new REXX language API.
Integrated ISPF Viewers Users in the ISPF environment may now directly process reports and other data using ISPF VIEW or BROWSE, eliminating the need for copying to intermediate DASD data sets.
D (Display) Line Commands D line commands are now available on most tabular displays. These line commands generate system commands to display/query the selected resource.
z/OS V1.9 Reusable ASIDs (E)JES cross memory access routines have been enhanced to work with the reusable ASID support available in z/OS V1.9.
Performance Improvements A considerable amount of work was done to reduce the instruction path length and CPU consumption associated with many heavily used (E)JES functions. In addition, the I/O routines were rewritten so that spool I/O can be initiated from a zIIP processor. The new, highly optimized routines consume far fewer CPU resources than the IBM-provided services used in previous releases.
See the (E)JES SHARE update presentation for more information.
The release is available for download, along with V4R5 of (E)JES workstation component.
