Key/101 solutions easily fit the data input needs of your organization by using standard, general purpose Windows PCs, integrating a wide range of data input systems when needed, and providing a single point of control or distributed processing.  Data can be captured via a standard keyboard or using such devices as bar code scanners, optical character readers, and voice recognition equipment.

EasyLogic Facility

• Key/101's EasyLogic Facility provides unlimited flexibility and power for customizing your data input applications.
  
• Conditional (inter-field) edits, user-defined messages, powerful math, and custom check-digit routines.
• Conditional set and reset of verify fields and autoskip fields, and cursor positioning.
• Custom edits and actions.
• EasyLogic exit points: before a field is keyed or verified, after a field is edited or verified, before a screen is displayed, after the screen is edited or verified.

Flexible Extract

Key/101 input and extract (output) formats are totally independent. This means that you can reformat and extract data for immediate input to your applications program. You can access the extract function from a GUI, or call it from a scheduler or application program. Here are just a few extract options:

• Extract fields from one input format to multiple records, or vice versa.
• Extract any number of records from an input format.
• Extract parts of a field.
• Put literals and system constants in extract records.
• Extract packed decimal output or binary output.

Data Entry

PC data entry provides menu-driven, high speed data entry on LANs, WANs or standalone PCs, with immediate field-by-field validation.

• Immediate error detection; error fields are highlighted, and support user-defined messages; cursor moves to the error field.
• User-defined function keys, data keys and an embedded numeric keypad.
• Find and replace function includes searching by string or field on one or all formats in the application.
• Document and batch balancing.
• Verification on a selective, field-by-field basis (non-verify fields protected).

Application Building

Key/101 for Windows substantially reduces the time needed to maintain even the most complex applications. With a click of a mouse, you can update a format, field or entire application. You can cut and paste a field, entire format, extract definition, or EasyLogic procedure. Here are a few application maintenance features:

• Direct access to the application level needing change (it isn't necessary to navigate through a series of screens or menu items).
• A screen painter GUI that makes changing formats easy (you can add or delete fields or rename them without having to re-do the whole format). Application building is easy for the novice; as you become familiar with Key/101 Application Building short cuts, you can build complex applications at warp speed.
• A copy function for copying formats and even entire applications, which saves time building many similar applications. You can also use this feature for testing: you can make changes to a copy of a a test application while operations continue under the one in production. Key/101 retains all the field definitions in the copy format—simply change the fields that should be different.
• Comprehensive context-sensitive help.
• Field name and constant lists; these never need to be retyped—just select them from the list to paste them into your extract or EasyLogic script.

Security and Control

Security and control for the both mainframe and PC environments are an integral part of the design of every part of the Key/101 system.

• Security checks that protect against unauthorized use and unexpected interruptions when operators sign on, and when applications are accessed.
• Privileged commands which activate sensitive, system-wide functions accepted only from users with valid supervisory codes.
• Monitoring of operator activity.
• Selective batch marking for extract processing.
